Anatoly S. Mikhailov

"Fantasy of Art"
October 8th thru November 1st, 2008
Reception
Thursday, October 16th (6 - 8 pm)

AES Gallery is pleased to present the paintings and sculpture of Anatoly S. Mikhailov. Born in 1951 in Russia, Anatoly followed his interest in art and attended, and received his master's degree from the National Academy of Arts in Leningrad in 1986. He completed courses in anatomy, sculpture, drawing, perspective, architecture, philosophy and art history. In 1989 he moved to New York City.

As a professional sculptor Anatoly has completed numerous public commissions from world leaders past and present to military memorials and portraiture. He carries forward a tradition established many, many years ago that empowers and calls on artists to honor the world around them.

This exhibition highlights Anatoly's personal work that is inspired by us: human beings. Our shared history and human mythology has guided Anatoly to create sculptures and paintings challenging us to look into the souls and the state of mind of those around us. Anatoly's modeling style brings with it exploration of daily human themes. Culture and expression collide as Anatoly works through his upbringing in Russia and his adult life in New York. The emotional depth of each work further asks us to explore how we survive the joy and disappointment of life.
