Cristián Pietrapiana

"pietrapiana paintings"
October 10, 2009 - October 31, 2009
Opening Reception
Friday, October 16, 6-9 pm

AES Gallery is pleased to present the first solo painting show of artist Cristián Pietrapiana. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina Cristián grew up around his grandfather, local painter J. Roggerone, who taught him the basics. He studied Social Communication in Del Salvador University, Buenos Aires and in the late 1980s decided to dedicate himself to painting. Cristián worked and assisted master painters in Buenos Aires and Milan, finally settling in New York City in the early 90s.

In pietrapiana paintings Cristián gives the viewer an int mate look at figures in isolation. In these works Cristián engages the viewer through the forceful close-up of the human figure against a tender landscape. His use of warm colors alongside the imaginative mystery of segmented bodies brings one to embrace the human figure rather than to retreat.

His work has been shown in Centro Cultural Recoleta, Buenos Aires; Exit Art, NYC; Nicholas Davis Gallery, NY; The Cork Gallery at Lincoln Center; Montclair State Art Gallery, NJ; Local Project, NY; Space Gallery, NY; and The Queens Museum, NY among other venues nation-wide. His work is also in numerous private and public collections throughout the world.
